Strategic Urban Plans for the Inter-Municipal Area of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago de Chile

The Strategic Urban Plans (PUE), promoted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aim primarily to foster urban regeneration and the revitalization of specific neighborhoods through planning and intervention in public space.

In this case, the project focuses on two neighborhoods in Santiago de Chile that have been affected by major infrastructure developments, resulting in a lack of hierarchy and structure in the street network and open spaces, a significant deficit of green areas and sports facilities, and an undervalued architectural heritage.

The working methodology is based on a diagnostic process and strategic reflection on the neighborhoods as a whole, leading to the development of a planning tool (Master Plan), the identification of the set of intervention proposals required to achieve the objectives (Portfolio of Initiatives), and the definition and implementation of a public space transformation project designed to act as a catalyst for the regeneration process in each neighborhood (Catalytic Project).
